About Us
The Division of Finance and Development at Kenyatta University is charged with the responsibility of overseeing the implementation of the financial policies as per the PFMA (2012) and the development of infrastructure. The Division has continually spearheaded various activities aimed at enabling the University to achieve its Mission of providing quality education, training, promoting scholarship and innovation.
The Division is committed to implementing appropriate Finance Management Policies and procedures in conformity with the Constitution of Kenya and relevant laws. To ensure efficient operations, the University prioritizes its activities in relation to available financial resources. Effective management of such resources is of paramount importance to the success of the University’s strategies.
Provision and maintenance of adequate facilities to support learning at the University is another key function carried by the Division of Finance and Development.
The Division is headed by a Deputy Vice-Chancellor with the following duties and functions;
- Preparation of estimates, allocation of funds, control of expenditure and financial accounting;
- Physical developments
- Grounds and Estate management
- Procurement Services
- Repair and maintenance of University assets.
- Coordinating consultancy services
Strategic Goals, Objectives and Strategies
The goal of Kenyatta University is to enhance resource mobilization and create a sustainable financial base.
To attain this goal, Kenyatta University will pursue the following objectives:
- Increase the financial resource inflow of the university.
- Build capacity for generating financial resources.
- Institutionalize prudent financial management practices.
- Efficient management of university resources.
Units in the Division
- Registrar (Finance and Development)
Principal Assistant to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and responsible for monitoring daily operations for Sections in the Division.
- Chief Finance Office
Manages finances and financial reporting obligations and performs such other duties as may be delegated or assigned by the Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Finance and Development). Through the Budgetary Office: In charge of budget projections of the University, monitoring the budget trends and coordination of frequent aspects of research, consultancies and grants. Through Salaries Section: In charge of managing and controlling the University payroll.
- Procurement Section
In charge of the procurement of goods and services for the University in accordance with the procurement Act and all other applicable laws and regulations.
- University Architect
Responsible for the oversight and management of the long-range physical planning and design of the University’s buildings and landscape. The Office is also responsible for advocacy, maintenance and development of the University’s Campus Master Plan, and engages broadly with University constituents, community partners and municipal agencies to ensure the University’s long term vision guides all changes made to the physical environment of the Campus.
- Estates Section
Responsible for the repair and maintenance of University buildings, equipment and facilities.
- Consultancy Services
The Directorate is mandated to build a highly competitive industry based workforce by providing quality training and consultancy services. The training and consultancy services are anchored in the achievement of sustainable development goals.
