The School of Pharmacy was established in 2018 and was previously the Department of Pharmacy and Complementary/Alternative Medicine within the School of Medicine, Main Campus. The first batch of BPharm students registered in January 2009. The school is responsible for the training of professional Pharmacists and Natural Medicine Practitioners both at Undergraduate and Postgraduate levels, to meet the health needs of the country. These graduates serve in various positions in hospitals, pharmaceutical industry, community Pharmacy, research establishments and academia among others.
The school has two departments namely Pharmacology & Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacognosy, Pharmaceutical Chemistry & Pharmaceutics and Industrial Pharmacy.
1. MISSION
To generate and disseminate knowledge through teaching and research on all areas of allopathic and alternative health care systems for a healthier and wealthier world.
2. VISION
To be a multidisciplinary center of excellence in health research, capacity building, biodiversity conservation, drug discovery and development through research.
3. OBJECTIVES
To train a professional who:
a) Is capable of stimulating and sustaining the country’s pharmaceutical industry and natural system of medicine.
b) Is competent in communicating and making judgment in all matters pertaining to drugs.
c) Will fully participate in treatment of diseases, alleviation and prevention of suffering.
d) Will help to formulate and sustain national policies with respect to the production, preservation, quality control and safe use of drugs.
ACCREDITATION
The Pharmacy degree course is accredited by Pharmacy and Poisons Board of Kenya.
