During the 3rd Quarter, from January – March 2019, the Directorate made several major achievements all which targeted to provide wellness services and provide intervention measures to life threatening issues to both staff and students in the University.
- On 7th and 9th February, 2019 the Directorate trained 75Trained Trainers (TOTs) on Alcohol and drug abuse, prevention of HIV and AIDS and counseling.The knowledge gained will help them and also apply to be peer educator to their colleagues face by those challenges
- Form 11th – 15th March 2019, the Directorate organized for Wellness week, in partnership with: KUSA, National Aids Control Council (NACC), Ruaraka Sub county . Aids Health Foundation and University Management. All these partners gave their support in providing Wellness Services which include: campaigns against alcohol and drug abuse, HIV Testing , counseling and connecting those affected care, reproductive health checks.
- On 5th and 6th February the Directorate visited Mombasa Campus to sensitize both staff and student on Alcohol and drug abuse, HIV prevention and care and also Wellness services were provided which include: blood pressure checks, blood sugar test, HIV Testing and counseling
- On 14th February the Directorate extended the wellness services to the staff at the New Administration Block, The activity was very successful as a total of 106 staff received the wellness health checks.
- On 7th March 2019, the University signed a 2 year project on Mental Health and Wellbeing with Basicneedsbasicrights Kenya and the activities of the project will be implemented by the Directorate of Wellness and Rehabilitation Services
- On 22nd of March 2019 the Directorate of Wellness and Rehabilitation Services conducted a very successful Wellness Training for staff proceeding in retirement in 2019. The DVC Administration gave the opening remarks and advised the retirees at length. A total of 50 retirees attended the training which was very informative and helped in preparing them for retirement
- During the said quarter the counselors at the Directorate were able o attend to 75 cases of counseling which include the following: psychological, drug related, academic related, relationships and suicidal ideation.
- The Directorate was able to sensitize a total 1,767 students on, alcohol and drug abuse, through real life experience sharing, talks and presentations.
- Sensitized a total of 4,592 students on condom use and disposal through various activities like demonstrations facilitated by the King of condom who visited KU on 22rd February2019 and other activities
- Establishment of Safe Space at KU – Wellness and Rehabilitation Services
